Exceeding 16' wide, 16' high, 100' long, or 160,000 lbs gross classifies a Nebraska load as a superload.

Escorts and travel restrictions

Escort & pilot car rules

  • Escort may be required once a load exceeds 8'6" wide, 90' long, or 14'6" high.
  • Escort required once a load exceeds 12' wide or 100' long.

When you can travel

  • Overdimensional loads: travel limited to 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset; prohibited on holidays.
  • Overweight-only loads may move 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Signs, flags and lights

Most states require

  • An “OVERSIZE LOAD” banner on the front of the truck and the rear of the load.
  • Red or fluorescent orange warning flags at each corner and at the widest points of the load.
  • Amber warning lights or clearance lights when moving at night, where night travel is allowed.
