Nevada oversize & overweight permits

Permit types we file in Nevada

5-Day ODV PermitShort-term permit for a single oversize/overweight move.
Annual ODV PermitOne-year permit for a specific vehicle/configuration.
Super Load ODV PermitCase-by-case permit for loads exceeding standard ODV thresholds, requiring Nevada Highway Patrol escort.

Maximum dimensions with a permit

DimensionMaximum with a permit
LengthUp to 110' before a rear pilot car is required (up to 120' with steerable trailers)
WidthUp to 16' before front+rear pilot cars are required on all road types
HeightUp to 15'6" before a front pilot car with clearance pole is required
Rear OverhangUp to 25' before a pilot car is required on the overhang side

Nevada's practical superload boundary is where a load exceeds the escort thresholds above; NDOT then requires its case-by-case Super Load ODV Permit with Highway Patrol escort.

Escorts and travel restrictions

Escort & pilot car rules

  • Height ≤15'6", width 12'1"–14': front pilot car on 2–3 lane roads.
  • Width over 16': front and rear pilot cars on all road types regardless of height.
  • Night or holiday travel: front and rear pilot cars mandatory regardless of dimensions.

When you can travel

  • Confirmed for your load at filing.

Signs, flags and lights

Most states require

  • An “OVERSIZE LOAD” banner on the front of the truck and the rear of the load.
  • Red or fluorescent orange warning flags at each corner and at the widest points of the load.
  • Amber warning lights or clearance lights when moving at night, where night travel is allowed.

Nevada specifics

  • Banner size, flag size and light rules for Nevada are listed on your permit.
  • We include them in your permit notes so your driver has them before the trip.

Rules change. Limits and requirements are set by NDOT and can change. We confirm the current rules for your exact load before filing.
