- Police escort required for loads over 17' wide on secondary highways or 20' wide on freeways.
- Police escort required for loads over 17'6" high on all public highways.
- Police escort required for loads over 175' long on all public highways.
When you can travel
- Regional route authorization for larger loads should be requested up to 14 days in advance.
- UDOT administrative rules restrict some oversize movement to daylight hours; exact hours are permit-specific.
Signs, flags and lights
Most states require
- An “OVERSIZE LOAD” banner on the front of the truck and the rear of the load.
- Red or fluorescent orange warning flags at each corner and at the widest points of the load.
- Amber warning lights or clearance lights when moving at night, where night travel is allowed.
